The NYFW 2019 Style Edit
If there’s one thing more seasonal than a pumpkin spice latte, it’s the oncoming of fall fashion. Arguably one of the best times of the year for style-seekers, anyone can adapt their wardrobe by incorporating basic essentials, summer favorites and trending details into entire outfits that serve as the ultimate self-expression. After a little research and a healthy dose of real girl style, I’ve dug a little deeper into what graced the runways at NYFW and elaborated on their staying power for this season and beyond.
Millennial purple
Just in case you think millennial pink was the shade for a generation, lavender is basically here to cure you of all your fashion ills. For the more conservative, I’m loving softer shades styled casually in athleisure lines or with denim but if you’re willing to take a risk, a monochrome, head-to-toe set is an eye-catching and bold move that’s sure to turn heads. And as you can see, I’ve been into wearing this berry-friendly (sorry not sorry) color for quite some time…

Capes
Just in case you were taking your style cues from The Incredible’s Edna Mode, allow me to give you permission to stray from her iconic advice of, “no capes”. Aside from making you look like a Royal (because who doesn’t envy the cozy look of a duchess on a site visit), this outerwear look is light enough for transitional weather or for those instances where you want to show off your sleeves. Buy one for Halloween, save it for a classic outerwear piece as we head into the cooler months.

Feathers
Admittedly, I realize that a detail like feathers can be a pretty extreme move if you’re not used to making a statement so I invite you to give this trend a try for special occasions and more formal opportunities where the unexpected is more or less expected when it comes to personalizing a look. Whether you sport an entire piece adorned with more natural frills or a single plume, there’s an element of elegance and luxury that comes from feather details.

Cinched suiting
I, for one, am thrilled that suiting is becoming more of a mainstream style staple especially because I think a blazer is the easiest, classiest fashion element that can play double-duty as outerwear in a pinch. I keep a few in my closet in varying shades, from navy to black, and layer them over everything from jeans and a plain tee to a solid tank and complimenting suiting. With the added aspect of cinching, suiting, and particularly blazers, gets elevated to an even further level by adding lines to an otherwise, potentially boxy or squared off, silohuette.

Satin
If I could wear my slip pillowcase out into the world, I would probably try. The sheen and texture exudes all the luxurious vibes I want and deserve from my personal affects and also from my wardrobe. I’m really excited it’s a “thing” this season and will probably/ definitely use it as my excuse to finally find and wear the satin slip of my dreams…even if I’m just wearing it around the house.
